Tournament Insurance
MEMBERS:
Members are free to travel to any U.S. Soccer member-sanctioned tournament that is unrestricted (open to all U.S. Soccer member teams). Most tournaments are unrestricted. Your US Club Soccer insurance coverage applies in all cases.
If you need a letter to take to a USYS-sanctioned tournament confirming you are a US Club Soccer member and have insurance coverage, download a copy of form #C011 from the Members’ Only Web site.
NON-MEMBERS ATTENDING US CLUB SOCCER-SANCTIONED TOURNAMENTS:
If you are not a member of US Club Soccer, but have been invited to attend a US Club Soccer-sanctioned tournament, and either cannot obtain insurance coverage or travel permission from your state association to attend, or have been denied use of your passcards, here are your options to attend:
[*Note however, that under USSF Policy 601-7, your state association cannot interfere with or deny you the right to attend another USSF member-sanctioned competition (other than for legitimate disciplinary reasons). They may refuse to cover you with insurance, or may deny you the use of your USYS player cards. You should clarify what they will do well in advance of the event. Each state has different rules, and you may or may not still need to complete a travel request, or give them travel notice.]
- Tournament-wide insurance.
First, you should see if the US Club Soccer-sanctioned tournament has obtained tournament-wide insurance coverage for all participating teams. Please note that tournament-wide insurance applies only to youth tournaments, and not to adult tournaments. - Join US Club Soccer (obtain passcards) [Online Application].
If the tournament has not obtained tournament-wide insurance, as long as you have been accepted to a US Club Soccer-sanctioned tournament, you may join US Club Soccer. Your team will receive passcards and insurance valid for the entire registration year. - Obtain Optional Tournament Team Insurance (No Cards) [Online Application]. See below.
Youth teams may obtain optional tournament insurance through US Club Soccer. In this case, you are not a US Club Soccer member, but instead are receiving insurance just for this tournament.
Note that the optional tournament insurance is not intended for teams whose clubs are US Club Soccer members. If this is the case, you are expected to get passcards through your club.
Also note, under the first and third options, if your state association has denied you the use of your player cards, contact the tournament to see what form of player identification is accepted.
NOTE: If attending US Club Soccer's National Cup or a state cup, you should not apply as a tournament team.
OPTIONAL TOURNAMENT TEAM INSURANCE
For youth teams whose clubs are not US Club Soccer members. Optional tournament team insurance does not apply to adult (U-20 and over) teams.
For those youth teams that not US Club Soccer members and are having a problem getting insurance coverage from your state association to attend a US Club Soccer-sanctioned tournament, you may obtain insurance from US Club Soccer for $150/team.
This provides additional insurance only, and you are still attending as a USYS member. Note also, the tournament insurance roster you will complete should suffice if your state association will not let you use your passcards, but check with the tournament first to see what it required.
Procedure:
There is a limit of 26 players per team. Under this program, the team still gets travel permission, if required, from its state association, uses its own USYS player cards if permitted, but is covered by the US Club Soccer insurance policy. In most cases, this should be all that is needed. Please note that once your request has been submitted, refunds will not be issued.
Once you complete the registration, you will go to the next screen and pay the $150 insurance fee via credit card. You will then have access to the team roster. Complete this roster with all required information, save it to your hard drive, and e-mail it to us. We will send you back an approved roster in a .pdf format. Take this approved .pdf roster to the tournament. Also, make sure to check whether or not the tournament will also require you to submit proof of birth for the players at check-in if you cannot use your player cards.
