2008 Champions Cup Blog

March 23. 2:43 pm ET - Sanford, FL - The last two age groups have been finalized and the Club Champions crowned. Congratulations to San Juan SC (CA) and Schulz Academy (FL) for winning the Girls and Boys Championship respectively. We wish all the teams safe travels and Happy Easter everyone. We will see you next year!

March 23. 11:54 am ET - Sanford, FL- Another two age group winners were crowned! Schulz Bu16 defeated San Juan 2 to 1 to win their age group and add more points towards their Club Championship. On the girls, Placer defeated San Juan 1 - Nothing. This result set up the Girls u17 Final between Placer and San Juan to be the final stance in the Club Championship. Several of the younger teams were seen cheering for their club mates.

Champions Cup Results

March 23. 10:24 am ET - Sanford, FL - Two age group winners have been crowned. Colorado Rush won the u13's Girls bracket, while Weston won the Bu14's. The San Juan Girls 13's however, added 25 points towards their club's total. Currently, the Boys u16 and Girls u15 are taking the stage. Remember, every teams performance influences who will be the Champion Cup winning Club!

March 23. 9:04 am ET - Sanford, FL - We have started our final day of competition. Today the intensity has picked up. A few of the finals are currently tied at half! San Juan and Rush are battling at the u13 girls finals, while Schulz and Weston battle for the Bu14's Age Group. We will have our 1 vs. 2 finals on field 7 and 10, girls and boys respectively. We have moved our headquarter to nearby the stage. We will have awards ceremony after the conclusion of the u17 and u18 finals, approximately at 2 pm. Best of luck!

March 22. 1:54 pm ET - Sanford, FL - The last set of finals have been set. We were lucky enough not to have any rain delays. Best luck to all teams tomorrow as they finish their quest to become the Champions Cup winner.

March 22. 1:54 pm ET - Sanford, FL - The next few finals are almost set! Check out the scores above. Highlights include two California teams battling it out for the u17/u18 girls age group and two Florida teams playing for the u18 boys finals. We were also fortunate enough to take a picture of our FIFA referee in action (Kermit). We are hoping for good weather, but the rain is coming!

March 22. 11:24 am ET - Sanford, FL - We are proud to announce our first set of finalists in the Girls u13 age group. San Juan SC will meet Colorado Rush at 8 am Sunday. The remaining teams will fight it out for additional points towards their club championships. Also happening today is the presence of FIFA Referee, Kermit Quisenberry.  You can see him in action today during the Champions Cup games.

March 21. 4:54 pm ET - Sanford, FL - As day two comes to a closure, we have enjoyed another set of great competition.  Teams are now figuring out what they need to do tomorrow in order to get a high seed in the placement matches. The excitement is brewing for tomorrow's matches when we will see a few matches between undefeated teams. Others will be hoping for higher points in their age group in order to help the club win the championship. Isn't that what it's all about? Here are some pictures from today's matches:


March 21. 11:50 am ET - Sanford, FL - Day two is now under way! Beautiful skies and a nice breaze awaited for the first set of matches featuring Boys u16 and Girls u15. A few clubs enjoyed wins at all age groups, Schulz Academy Boys and San Juan SC Girls. They have set the bar high for the remaining of the weekend. We wish the rest of the participants best luck in trying to take the lead after day two!

March 20. 7:10 pm ET - Sanford, FL - The first day of games is almost complete! Teams have adjusted to the Florida weather, as well as different timezone, and have started their quest for their club championship.  We have enjoyed great competition at all age groups, including several high scoring games. All scores are being posted 15 minutes after the games end, so you can check out how your competition did almost immediately! Here are some pictures from today's action:

Thursday, March 20. 12:12 pm ET - Sanford, FL - Registration part II is on its way and only a few teams remain to be checked in before kick off at 2 pm. The first games will feature most of the Boys u14 teams and the Girls u15. Later on the older boys and girls will take the fields for their first matches. The last set of games will include the u13 girls and a mixture of other first round match ups.   The fields are ready, the stage is set, now the rest is up to you! Let's have some fun!

Wednesday, March 19. 6:36 pm ET- Sanford, FL - Registration has started!! Almost one half of the teams have checked in at the fields. The rest will be coming for check-in during morning hours. We want to thank Kate Arnold from Anthony Travel for stopping by the fields and being available for any questions. We hope all teams enjoy their hotels and Disney passes! San Juan wins the most organized club award (not really a contest) for having all 6 teams checked-in the day before! Thanks for your organization!

 Wednesday, March 19. 1:28 pm ET- Sanford, FL - Kick off is almost here! Florida welcomes all traveling teams with a windy day but in the mid 70's. Registration starts tonight and will again be taking place tomorrow at the Davis Maus Toyota Soccer Complex between 11am and 1 pm. The first set of games will start at 2 pm. We have already seen teams stop by the facility, including the Boys u16 San Juan SC team, which spent about an hour stretching out their legs from their long trip. Stop by and say hello to the US Club Soccer Staff: Kathi, Tracie, Ken, John, Chad (Intern once again!) and Leo. Good luck to all participating teams!!
