id2 Program alums take part in U-14 U.S. National Team camps as focus turns to 2011-12 id2 Program

usclubsoccer.org/id2 | id2 Player Recommendation Form

CHARLESTON, S.C. (Aug. 18, 2011) – A total of 46 former participants in US Club Soccer’s id2 National Player Identification and Development Program and the new league-based US Club Soccer Player Development Programs (PDP) took part in the most recent U.S. Soccer U-14 Boys’ and Girls’ National Team Identification Camps.

The boys’ camp was held July 31-Aug. 6 in Carson, Calif., while the girls’ camp was held July 31-Aug. 7 in Portland, Ore.

A total of 30 id2 Program alums participated in U.S. Soccer’s U-14 Boys’ National Team Camp. The group included players from id2 Program Training Camps and US Club Soccer PDPs through the Northeast Pre-Academy League and NorCal Premier League. Also included were a pair of 2011 id2 National Selection International Tour members, as 15 of that squad’s 18 players have now earned a call-up to a U.S. Boys’ National Team Camp.

The U.S. Soccer U-14 Girls’ National Team Camp included 16 id2 Program alums. Among those players were 15 id2 Program Training Camp attendees and one participant from the US Club Soccer PDP: NorCal Premier League.

As these id2 Program alums move into the U.S. National Team Program, the next generation of id2 Program participants will soon have their chance, as the focus turns to the 2011-12 cycle of the id2 Program. Currently in its eighth year, the 2011-12 id2 Program includes boys born in 1998-99 and girls born in 1995-98.

In a slightly changed structure, the 2011-12 id2 Program will include four training camps, with two taking place in the fall and two in the spring. The purpose of the structure change is to even better integrate the id2 Program Training Camps with U.S. Soccer’s scouting calendar and maximize the opportunity for players to be selected to various U.S. Soccer National Team Camps.

The fall id2 Program Training Camps will be held Oct. 13-16 at the PDA Soccer Complex in Zarephath, N.J., and Nov. 10-13 at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas. Dates and locations of the spring 2012 id2 Program Training Camps, as well as details about international tours, will be released in the coming weeks.

The id2 Program is based upon a nationwide scouting and recommendation process in which players are scouted within their club training and competition environment, without additional demands placed on their competition and training calendars. There is no cost to be recommended or scouted for the id2 Program, which is open to all players regardless of affiliation, or lack thereof.

From this player pool, qualified players are invited to one of several id2 Program Training Camps, or to league-based local Player Development Programs, where U.S. Soccer National Staff are on-site to evaluate and assess the players.

US Club Soccer encourages coaches to recommend players with national team potential for inclusion in the id2 Program via the online id2 Player Recommendation Form. Early recommendation is encouraged to ensure that players are able to be properly evaluated and scouted. These recommendations will supplement US Club Soccer’s own scouting process utilizing a network of key scouts at league games and other competitions throughout the country.
