CHARLESTON, S.C. (Oct. 21, 2009) – Ohio Cup winners were crowned over the past two weekends as part of US Club Soccer’s state championship competition for member clubs and teams.

Eight teams captured state championships in the U-11 through U-14 event on Oct. 10-11 at the OESA Training and Competitions Facility in suburban Cincinnati, and winners receive preferential seeding in US Club Soccer’s 2010 National Cup IX.

Held in conjunction with the U-11 through U-14 event was the Ohio Cup Challenge Series festival event for U-8 through U-10 squads in Columbus at Value City Furniture Fields at Easton. State championships were not awarded in the U-8 through U-10 event; rather, the three-game round-robin event serves as a feeder into the Ohio Cup event for U-11 through U-14 teams in which state championships are awarded.

At this year’s U-8 through U-10 event, an all-tournament team recognizing players’ developmental abilities and skill level was selected.

With three championship titles, Ohio Elite Academy experienced the most success as a club. In addition to the U-14 boys’ title, the Crew Juniors Gold captured the U-12 boys’ championship after falling short in the U-11 finals last year.
