Over 125 US Club Soccer Member Clubs’ Players in Action With U.S. National Teams

Number Includes Eight Players Named to 2006 FIFA World Cup Roster

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (May 3, 2006) – During the past month, US Club Soccer member clubs have seen over 125 of their players, as either alumni or current players, be selected to their respective U.S. National Team.  This number includes eight players just named to the Men’s National Team roster for the 2006 FIFA World Cup June 9 – July 9 in Germany.

Also among this number are six members of the U-14 Boys National Team who are alumni of the US Club Soccer id2 National Training Camp: Travis Golden (2004), Perry Kitchen (2005), Joe Loya (2004), George Pantelic (2004), Charles Renken (2004, 2005) and Ross Tomaselli (2005).

The Men’s National Team will face Czech Republic, Italy and Ghana in World Cup Group E action beginning June 12.  Before departing for Germany, the Men’s National Team will contest a three-match send-off series with all games aired live on ESPN2:

  • Tuesday, May 23 vs. Morocco at The Coliseum in Nashville, Tenn. (7pm ET/4pm PT)
  • Friday, May 26 vs. Venezuela at Cleveland Browns Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio (7pm ET/4pm PT)
  • Sunday, May 28 vs. Latvia at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Conn. (7pm ET/4pm PT)

The U.S. Women’s National Team, looking ahead to CONCACAF Qualifying in November for the 2007 Women’s World Cup, is currently in Japan to play a friendly series against the Japanese on May 7 and 9.

Several of the Youth National Teams have been in action during the past month with the Under-20 Women winning the Ricardo Teixeira Cup in Teresopolis, Brazil; the Under-18 Men finishing fourth at the Slovakia Cup; and the Under-17 ’90 Men taking runner-up status at the Ballymena International Tournament in Northern Ireland.

In the midst of preparations for this summer’s Nordic Cup, the Under-21 Women are currently in Europe contesting a series of games against Dutch and German club teams.  The Under-16 Girls were in Holland in mid-April where they accumulated a 3-0-0 record against two Dutch clubs and the host’s Under-19 squad.  The Under-20 Men returned home from an April trip to Argentina with a 1-1-1 record after playing two club teams and the host country’s Under-20 side.

Also, the Under-20 Women and Under-14 Boys are currently training at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., while the Under-17 Women trained in Sunrise, Fla. for a week in mid-April.
