2007 National Cup VI Titles Earned by Girls U12-U17 and Boys U12-U14 Teams

GREENSBORO, N.C. (July 31, 2007) – US Club Soccer awarded 2007 National Cup VI championships on Tuesday, July 31 in Super Group and Premier divisions to Girls U15-U17 teams at Bryan Park in Greensboro, N.C. and Boys & Girls U12-U14 teams at Springwood Park in Burlington, N.C.  The 2007 National Cup VI Boys U15-U17 Champions were crowned on Tuesday, July 24 at Bryan Park.

Teams hailing from California dominated the second weekend of 2007 National Cup VI Finals as they claimed eight of the 18 national championships awarded. Four of the title games pitted California sides against each other.  The Irvine Strikers won a pair of all-California tilts as the club won the Super Group U12 Boys title with a 5-1 defeat of Portuguese Athletic Club Tigres and the Super Group U15 Girls championship with a 2-0 blanking of Albion SC.  In other all-California matchups, San Diego Surf shut out Palo Alto Victory, 3-0, to triumph in the Super Group U13 Girls bracket and USA 17 Academy Metro edged Diablo Valley SC Black Pearl, 1-0, on an overtime strike from Lauren Hom.

Other California teams to earn 2007 National Cup VI titles were NorCal Lamorinda United, who dropped Minnesota’s Shattuck-St. Mary’s, 3-0 in a penalty kick shootout following a 2-2 tie in the Premier U16 Girls flight; California Odyssey, 3-2 victors over Charlotte SC in the Premier U15 Girls division; Mustang United FC, who prevailed 3-1 over Arizona FC Hammers in the Premier U14 Boys bracket; and Pateadores with a  4-1 victory over South Charlotte SA to win the Super Group U13 Boys title.

South Charlotte SA, one of two North Carolina clubs to win 2007 National Cup VI championships, fared better in the Premier U12 Boys Final blanking Ottawa Fury, 4-0.  SoccerOP used a 4-2 penalty kick shootout victory after a 1-1 tied against Michigan Nationals to claim the Premier U12 Girls championship.

New England and Mid-Atlantic teams also took home a number of national championships.  Andres Paredes’ hat trick led Connecticut’s Eastern FC Magic to a 3-2 victory over Bethesda SC United in the Premier U13 Boys flight.    In the 81st minute, Gabrielle Jatkola tallied the game-winner as MPS Cape Cod Lady Crusaders from Massachusetts downed Kickers United FC Cosmos, 3-1, in the Premier U17 Girls Final.

In an evenly matched intra-state battle, New Jersey’s PDA Charge seized the Super Group U13 Final in a 6-5 penalty kick shootout win over Wall Soccer Wild Wombats after the two sides played to a 1-1 tie.  New Jersey’s Pasco Stallions edged Santa Clara Sporting FC, 2-1, to hoist the National Cup trophy in the Super Group U14 Boys bracket.  On the strength of overtime goals from Veronica Santiago and Sarah Henderson, New York’s Rochester Jr. Rhinos Elite triumphed in the Super Group U16 Girls Final with a 2-0 victory against Arsenal / World Class Hawks.  Maryland’s Freestate Soccer Alliance Shooters recorded a 5-1 victory over Parippany Storm to win the Super Group U17 Girls division.

Midwest squads prevailed in a pair of girls’ 2007 National Cup VI Finals.  Ohio Premier Girls shut out Brentwood Apex by a 3-0 score to win the Super Group U12 title while Illinois’ FCX Black earned the Premier U14 championship, 1-0, over Rio Vista FC Riot after Jennifer Freeman netted the overtime game-winner.

Boys Super Group U14 Champions Will Advance to 2008 Nike Manchester United Premier Cup U.S. Finals
In an agreement reached with Nike and the Manchester United Premier Cup, the Boys Super Group U14 2007 National Cup VI Champion, Pasco Stallions, will receive an invitation to the 2008 Nike Manchester United Premier Cup U.S. Finals.  The Manchester United Premier Cup is the largest and most competitive international youth soccer tournament in the world.  The boys’ winner of the U.S. Finals will qualify for the Manchester United Premier Cup World Finals (site to be determined).

Score at the Shore Showcase Ties Provide Exposure to College Scouts
A unique partnership with the Score at the Shore Showcase allowed the Boys & Girls U15-U17 age groups to compete for national titles at the US Club Soccer National Cup VI Finals while being scouted by hundreds of college coaches from across the country.  The US Club Soccer National Cup Finals have been held in conjunction with the Score at the Shore Showcase, one of the country’s largest college showcases, for the past four years exposing participants to numerous college scouts.
