Inaugural New York Cup slated for 2010
CHARLESTON, S.C. (Nov. 24, 2009) – The inaugural New York Cup for U-9 through U-11 boys’ and girls’ teams will kick off on March 20, 2010, and run through mid-June.
The event is open to US Club Soccer member teams from New York. Those teams that aren’t currently members may join prior to competing.
The competition will consist of a group stage followed by single-elimination rounds. Teams will initially be distributed into eight evenly-balanced brackets in each age group for both genders as part of the event’s group stage.
The event will conclude with semifinals, finals and third place contests on June 13, 2010, at HBC Soccer Park.
Teams are guaranteed a minimum of three games, and an 8 vs. 8 format will be used.
“We are confident that the new format will help bring out the best of competition in all teams,” said Gary Grossman, President of the New York Club Soccer League. “We believe that this fresh and revolutionary approach will become the model for many years in the future.”
The application fee [link to application] is $200, and the deadline to apply is Jan. 10, 2010.
The New York Cup coincides with the recent announcement of the New York Club Soccer League.
