US Club Soccer Member Clubs’ Players Training With U.S. National Teams

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (Jan. 13, 2006) – US Club Soccer member clubs have nearly 200 players, as either alumni or current players, training with their respective U.S. Soccer National Team during the month of January. 

Seven U.S. National Teams: the Men, Women, U-21 Women, U-20 Women, U-18 Men, U-17 Women and U-15 Women have been called in to train at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. this month.  The U-16 Women’s National Team, whose roster has yet to be announced, will join them in training at The Home Depot Center Jan. 21-28.

In addition, the U-17 Men’s National Team has begun the spring semester of its residency program in Bradenton, Fla. and the U-14 Boys National Team will train for a week in Mexico.  The U-14 Boys roster features five players who have participated in US Club Soccer’s id2 National Training Camp: Travis Golden (2004), Perry Kitchen (2005), George Pantelic (2004), Charles Renken (2004, 2005) and Ross Tomaselli (2005).

Commencing their preparations for the 2006 World Cup in Germany, the U.S. Men’s National Team is training for a 3-game series of friendlies in January and February:

  • Jan. 22 vs. Canada at Torero Stadium in San Diego, Calif. (8pm ET/5pm PT)
  • Jan. 29 vs. Norway at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. (5pm ET/2pm PT, ESPN2)
  • Feb. 10 vs. Japan at SBC Park in San Francisco, Calif. (11pm ET/8pm PT, ESPN2)

The U.S. Women’s National Team, looking ahead to CONCACAF Qualifying later this year for the 2007 Women’s World Cup, will be competing at the Four Nations Tournament in Guangzhou, China Jan. 18-22 against Norway, France and China.

The U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team, meanwhile, is preparing for the CONCACAF Women’s U-20 Final Qualifying Tournament being held Jan. 18-27 in Mexico.  The top three finishers will advance to the 2006 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Championship to be contested in Russia from Aug. 17-Sept. 3, 2006.  During CONCACAF Qualifying group play, the U.S. Under-20 Women will face Jamaica, Surinam and El Salvador.

About US Club Soccer
US Club Soccer is a non-profit organization whose mission is to develop competitive club soccer in the United States.
