CHARLESTON, S.C. (June 20, 2009) – The dates and locations of US Club Soccer’s 2009 id2 Regional Training Camps have been finalized, and some of the country’s top soccer-specific facilities will host camps for the organization’s player identification and development program. The 2009 id2 program targets boys born in 1996-97 and girls born in 1995-96.
The 2009 id2 Regional Training Camps are slated for:
· Oct. 1-4 at the PDA Soccer Complex in Zarephath, N.J. (Boys and girls)
· Nov. 12-15 at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas (Boys and girls)
· Dec. 10-13 at Reach 11 Sports Complex in Phoenix (Boys only)
id2 Regional Training Camps will return to New Jersey’s PDA Soccer Complex and Pizza Hut Park in suburban Dallas, while Phoenix has been added as a new location.
“We are thrilled with the locations of the 2009 id2 Regional Training Camps,” said US Club Soccer Senior Vice President Curt Johnson. “The id2 program continues to get a record number of recommendations and unprecedented support from U.S. Soccer. We are confident that the 2009 program will be the best yet.”
id2 Regional Training Camps are invitation-only events that bring together the nation’s top boys’ and girls’ youth players for four days of training, competition and evaluation. Invitations are sent after an extensive scouting and recommendation program in which players throughout the country are identified in their own environment as they compete with their club teams.
Player recommendations [form] are currently being accepted, and invitations will be extended to qualified players with national team pool potential starting in July.
U.S. Soccer National Team staff will be in attendance at id2 Regional Training Camps, which seek to identify and develop the country’s best players for inclusion in U.S. Soccer’s National Team programs.
The only cost to players involved in id2 is that of travel to and from the id2 Regional Training Camp. Lodging, meals and training gear are provided by US Club Soccer and Nike.
US Club Soccer’s national identification and development program concept was initiated in July 2004 when the inaugural id2 National Training Camp was held in Raleigh, N.C. The annual National Training Camp was expanded to three Regional Training Camps in 2006 to better accommodate qualified players. The addition of girls’ participants also commenced in 2006.
US Club Soccer will also be announcing several new and significant components of the id2 program in the near future.
More information on the id2 program, led by Boys’ Director Gerry McKeown and Girls’ Director Rory Dames, can be found at the US Club Soccer Web site or by contacting Operations Manager Daniel Allen at dallen@usclubsoccer.org.
