CHARLESTON, S.C. (July 12, 2010) – Registration is currently open for the 2010-11 New York Cup, US Club Soccer’s state championship event for member teams. Now in its second year, the tournament is open to U-9 through U-12 boys’ and girls’ teams.

In a change from last year, the U-9 through U-11 age groups will begin play in the fall while the U-12 age group, which has been added to the New York Cup this year, will kick off in spring 2011. In addition, Gold and Silver divisions will be offered based on teams’ abilities.

“We’re very excited about kicking off the second-annual New York Cup and we look forward to seeing all the teams that participated in last year’s Cup, as well all of the new teams and clubs that will be joining us this fall,” said New York Club Soccer League President Gary Grossman. “We were thrilled with the response from the teams and coaches that took part last year and we’re excited to offer the same format this year plus the ability to form multiple competitive levels to help ensure parity.”

The New York Cup is a two-stage competition with a group stage followed by single-elimination rounds. The top four teams in each division will qualify for the final weekend of the tournament, with semifinals and finals taking place in each division during a single weekend in June, 2011.

Registration for the New York Cup will close on Aug. 31, however interested teams are encouraged to apply as soon as possible as there is a limit of 32 teams per division. The fee for the event is $250 and each team is guaranteed a minimum of three games.
