2009 National Cup VIII Finals and National Collegiate Showcase Return to Virginia Beach, Va.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (Nov. 6, 2008) – The 2009 National Cup VIII Finals and National Collegiate Showcase will return to Virginia Beach, Va., for the second consecutive year.

In a change from last year, the boys’ and girls’ events will be held on different dates to better accommodate the large number of participating teams. The boys’ National Cup VIII Finals and National Collegiate Showcase will take place July 25-28, while the girls’ events are scheduled for July 31-Aug. 3.

Games will be played at the Hampton Roads Soccer Complex and the adjacent Princess Anne Athletic Complex. Located just one mile apart, the Hampton Road Soccer Complex features 19 Tifway Bermuda grass fields, and the Princess Anne Athletic Complex includes seven natural grass fields, two of which are lighted.

With the National Collegiate Showcase taking place alongside the National Cup VIII Finals, the top soccer talent in the country will be in Virginia Beach. This provides college coaches with the rare opportunity to scout high-level U-15 through U-17 boys’ and girls’ players at two separate events – but at the same location. Approximately 120 college coaches registered to attend the 2008 National Cup VII Finals and National Collegiate Showcase.

Additionally, players, parents, relatives and friends attending the events will have no shortage of entertainment options for those times when one’s team is not on the field, as Virginia Beach is one of the nation’s most popular tourist destinations. Among the numerous nearby attractions are beach-related activities, Busch Gardens amusement park and colonial Williamsburg.

National Cup VIII Finals:

Championship teams from the 2009 National Cup VIII Regionals will advance to Virginia Beach for the 2009 National Cup VIII Finals, where 20 U-13 through U-17 teams will be crowned as national champions in Super Group and Premier divisions. U-11 and U-12 squads earn regional championships, but do not advance to the National Cup Finals.

Teams in the National Cup VIII Finals will not incur an additional fee. Participation in the event is covered by the squad’s initial National Cup VIII Regional application fee of $795 for U-13 through U-17 teams. The Regional application fee for U-11 and U-12 teams is $595.

More information about the 2009 National Cup VIII, including application highlights and a complete list of the 2009 National Cup VIII Regionals, can be viewed here.

National Collegiate Showcase:

The National Collegiate Showcase will feature some of the nation’s top U-15 through U-17 teams, and will enable players to be seen by an extensive network of college coaches. The entry fee is $950 per team.

Teams are encouraged to apply to the National Collegiate Showcase early and promptly begin planning their travel to Virginia Beach. Teams that register for the showcase and subsequently win a National Cup VIII Regional will be refunded their showcase entry fee.

For more information, please visit the National Collegiate Showcase Web page.

Applications for the 2009 National Cup VIII Regionals as well as the National Collegiate Showcase will be available in early December.
