Boys' National Cup IX Finals come to a close

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. (BOYS):

The boys' 2010 National Cup IX Finals came to a close Monday in Virginia Beach, Va., as 10 teams were crowned national champions at the Hampton Roads Soccer Complex. For a complete listing of today's champions, click here.

August 1

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. (BOYS):

With Sunday’s contests now complete, matchups are set for Monday’s national championship games at the boys' 2010 National Cup IX Finals in Virginia Beach, Va. Teams from 19 different clubs will have the chance to earn a national title on Monday, with Chicago Magic SC the only club with multiple teams reaching finals.

In the U-13 Super Group, Sockers FC Cup will take on Juventus FC Forza. Sockers FC rolled through group play with a perfect 3-0-0 record while Forza reached the final by winning its last two games after dropping its opening match on Friday to Arundel SA Black Hawks in a 6-4 thriller.

The U-13 Premier Group final will feature Colorado Storm '97 Royal and STN Rangers. The two teams met on Sunday with Colorado Storm claiming a narrow  1-0 victory.

Chicago Magic SC will have its first opportunity for a national championship in the U-14 Super Group as the team reached the final with a 2-1 semifinal win over New York Red Bulls. They will face Sacramento United Reds, who booked their place in the final by defeating Pachuca FC Dragons '95 4-0 in Sunday's second semifinal.

In the U-14 Premier Group, Laurel Knights FC will face California Odyssey, which rolled into the final without conceding a goal en route to a perfect 3-0-0 record.

The second chance for a Chicago Magic SC national championship will come in the U-15 Super Group, where the Chicago Regional champions will face San Bernardino Regional champions Union Independiente FC. Both teams scored eight goals during group play while combining for a record of 5-0-1.

The U-15 Premier Group final will feature a pair of teams that posted perfect 3-0-0 records in group play as Abunai SA '95 will face Team America Premier FC Barcelona.

In the U-16 Super Group final, Ajax FC Chicago Select '94 will take on Marlton SC Lightning Red. The two teams each led their respective groups with seven points.

Needing a win over Guilderland United FC Dutchmen on Sunday to book a place in the U-16 Premier Group final, Rio Vista FC '94 claimed a 1-0 victory and will now face SWFL United Academy 93/94 on Monday. The two teams met on Friday, with SWFL earning a 2-0 win.

The U-17 Super Group final will be a battle between Pittsgrove Regional champions MPS Boston Bulldogs and LaGrangeville Regional champions Synergy FC 92/93. MPS reached the final thanks to a 1-0 victory over Juventus SC Monarcas on Sunday.

Finally, Pittsgrove Regional champions Empire United SA Rochester will take on Winston-Salem Regional champions North Star SC in the U-17 Premier Group final. While Empire USA posted a 3-0-0 record in group play, North Star was part of a three-way tie with Colorado Storm SA North Royal '93 and SYA Lions with four points apiece, but claimed the tie breaker with a better goal differential.


July 31

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. (BOYS):

The boys' 2010 National Cup IX Finals and National Collegiate Showcase reached the halfway point on Saturday in Virginia Beach, Va., where teams completed the second day of action at Hampton Roads Soccer Complex.

Through two days of play, the vast majority of berths in Monday's championship games are yet to be decided heading into the third day of action on Sunday. The tightest race of the weekend is shaping up in the U-16 Super Group, where six teams are separated by just one point.

Ajax FC Chicago, FC Panthers, LSTS FC Madrid and Marlton Lightning Red are all tied atop the U-16 Super Group with four points apiece, however Century United and Tynecastle FC '93 are each just one point behind.

In all, teams from 11 different clubs find themselves atop division standings, including a two-way tie in the U-16 Premier Group between SWFL United Academy 93/94 and Guilderland United FC Dutchmen, who tied each other 1-1 on Saturday.

Chicago Magic still has a chance to place multiple teams in group finals, as teams from the club find themselves in second place in the U-13, U-14 and U-15 Super Groups.

Over the course of the weekend, US Club Soccer has been pleased to offer a free college recruiting and admissions seminar and free individual team meetings. Nationally-renowned college recruiting and admissions expert Rick Singer, Master Coach and CEO of The Key, has been on-hand to lead the free sessions, which took place on Friday and Saturday.

July 30

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. (BOYS):

The boys' 2010 National Cup IX Finals and National Collegiate Showcase got underway this morning in Virginia Beach, Va., as teams from across the country are participating in two competitive divisions from U-13 through U-17, with 10 national championships to be awarded on Monday.

Through the first day of action, teams from 11 different clubs find themselves atop division standings, including a two-way tie in the U-16 Premier Group. Both SWFL United Academy 93/94 and Guilderland United FC Dutchmen were victorious on Friday by 2-0 scores. The two teams will face each other at 2:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.

July 26

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. (GIRLS):

With Monday’s contests in the books, matchups are now set for Tuesday’s national championship games at the girls' 2010 National Cup IX Finals in Virginia Beach, Va. Teams from 19 different clubs will have the chance to earn a national title on Tuesday, with Empire United SA the only club with multiple teams reaching finals.

In the U-13 Super Group, Columbus Regional champion Ohio Elite SA will take on Seattle Regional champion Northwest Nationals ’96 Red. The two teams played to a scoreless draw on Monday, however a national title will be on the line during the rematch on Tuesday.

Empire United’s first contestant for a national championship will be Syracuse Blue, which will face Connecticut FC Wolves in the U-13 Premier Group final. The two teams met on Saturday, with Empire United claiming a 4-2 victory.

The U-14 Super Group final will pit Columbus Regional champion Michigan Elite PDA against Chicago Regional champion Minnesota Thunder Academy Elite ’96 Blue. The two teams have not played yet this weekend, unlike U-14 Premier Group finalists Hawaii Rush ’96 Nike and Quickstrike FC ’96, which faced each other on Monday in a 2-0 victory for Hawaii Rush.

In U-15 Super Group action, Pittsgrove Regional champion FC Delco Lightning will take on Columbus Regional champion VSA Heat Blue 94/95. The two teams played to a 1-1 tie on Sunday. In the U-15 Premier Group, San Ramon Azuri ’95 will face South Florida Alliance for the first time this weekend.

Following a 2-2 draw on Saturday, JYS Fury ’94 Green and Eclipse Select will meet on Tuesday to determine the U-16 Super Group champion. U-16 Premier Group finalsists Empire United SA Blue and Real Reno also met on Saturday, with Empire United securing a 3-0 victory.

The finalists in the U-17 Super Group also faced off on Saturday, when Chicago Regional champion Windy City Pride 39 defeated Columbus Regional champion Century United Red 1-0. The U-17 Premier Group final will feature a rematch of Beach FC Piranhas and RSL Florida Elite ’92, who played to a 1-1 tie on Sunday.


July 25

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. (GIRLS):

The girls' 2010 National Cup IX Finals and National Collegiate Showcase reached the halfway point on Sunday in Virginia Beach, Va., where teams completed the second day of action at Hampton Roads Soccer Complex.

The majority of berths in Tuesday's championship games are yet to be decided entering the third day of action on Monday. Perhaps the best example of the competitive nature of the weekend can be found in the U-15 Super Group, where five teams are separated by just one point.

VSA Heat Blue 94/95 and FC Delco Lightning hold the inside track to the U-15 Super Group finals with four points apiece, however Sparta United Premier '95, FC Portland Marine and Team Chicgao Academy-Botafogo are right on their heels with three points each.

In all, teams from nine different clubs will enter Monday's action with one division-leading team. Empire United SA continues to be the lone club with multiple first-place teams, boasting division leaders in the U-13 and U-16 Premier Groups.

July 24

The 2010 National Cup IX Finals and National Collegiate Showcase got underway Saturday morning in Virginia Beach, Va., as play kicked off across 10 divisions at the National Cup Finals and two divisions at the National Collegiate Showcase.

Through the first day of play at the National Cup Finals, just one club boasts multiple first-place teams as squads from Empire United SA lead both the U-13 and U-16 Premier Groups.

Nine other clubs will enter Sunday's action with one division-leading team, including Ohio Elite and Yankee United, which are tied atop the U-16 Super Group.

Play resumes at both the National Cup Finals and National Collegiate Showcase on Sunday morning.


July 23

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. (GIRLS):

The 2010 National Cup IX Finals and National Collegiate Showcase will kick off on Saturday morning in Virginia Beach, Va. Girls' teams from across the country will be competing in two competitive divisions from U-13 through U-17, with 10 national championships to be awarded on Tuesday.

July 12

PITTSGROVE (BOYS):

2010 National Cup IX Regional play wrapped up on Monday as the final seven titles were awarded at the Pittsgrove, N.J. (Boys) Regional. A total of 10 championships were handed out during the weekend, the last of six weekends of Regional competitions which began Memorial Day weekend.

Teams from a total of nine different clubs representing six states claimed Regional titles in Pittsgrove. They were led by City Islanders, which tallied a pair of championships during the event.

In the U-17 Super Group, MPS Boston Bulldogs defeated Pittsgrove SC Premier '92 Lightning 2-0 to earn its second straight Pittsgrove Regional title. The team returned 16 players from the squad that claimed the U-16 Super Group in 2009.

"One of the goals that we set for ourselves at the start of the season was to get back to the National Cup Finals in Virginia Beach," said MPS General Manager and Boston Bulldogs coach Joe Bradley. "It took a great contribution from all 18 players to allow us to win this Regional. They’re a hard-working group and we always knew success would come to them."

Winning teams in the U-13 through U-17 age groups from each Regional will now advance to the National Cup IX Finals in Virginia Beach, Va., held July 24-27 for girls and July 30-Aug. 2 for boys.


July 11

PITTSGROVE (BOYS)
:

Two more championships were awarded Sunday as play continued at the Pittsgrove, N.J. (Boys) Regional. In the U-13 Super Group, BRYC SC '96 Elite earned the title with a perfect 3-0-0 record.

The second championship of the day went to the Arundel SA Black Hawks, as the team claimed the U-13 Premier Group by posting three wins in three games.

Seven more titles are slated to be handed out on Monday, when the Pittsgrove (Boys) Regional will come to a close.


July 10

PITTSGROVE (BOYS):

The first champion of the Pittsgrove, N.J. (Boys) Regional was crowned on Saturday as City Islanders Academy claimed the U-12 Super Group.

Of the nine remaining divisions, teams from nine different clubs will enter play on Sunday with one division-leading team.

In perhaps the most competitive division in Pittsgrove, five different teams will enter Sunday's action with a 2-0-0 record in the U-17 Super Group. All 10 teams in the division will open the day with their final opening-round game at 9:30 a.m., before the top four teams advance to the semifinals at 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Two more championships are slated to be handed out on Sunday as the Pittsgrove (Boys) Regional continues.


July 9

PITTSGROVE (BOYS):

The final Regional of the 2010 National Cup IX got underway Friday as play began at the Pittsgrove, N.J. (Boys) Regional. Teams are competing in a total of 10 different divisions as the final bids for the National Cup IX Finals are up for grabs.

Teams from a total of nine different clubs will enter play on Saturday with at least one team leading its division. Both City Islanders and Empire United SA boast two first-place squads through the first day of action.

The 12th episode of Today at the Cup is now available with highlights from the first day of action at the Pittsgrove (Boys) Regional. Fans can check back for further episodes throughout the Pittsgrove (Boys) Regional.


July 8

PITTSGROVE (BOYS):

The sixth and final weekend of 2010 National Cup IX Regional play will kick off on Friday with the Pittsgrove, N.J. (Boys) Regional. Teams from a total of six different states will be competing in age groups from U-12 through U-17 over the course of the weekend.
