CHARLESTON, S.C. (May 29, 2012) – US Club Soccer's National Cup XI kicked off Memorial Day weekend, as 16 teams were awarded Northeast Regional titles for the event held May 26-28 at Stringham Park in LaGrangeville, N.Y.
Three clubs earned multiple Regional championships, with Ironbound SC, Eastern FC and Hans Soliz Soccer School each earning two titles in boys divisions. The 16 champions represented 12 different clubs from three different states.
“The Northeast Regional was a terrific event, from the incredible atmosphere to professionalism of the staff, and high quality of the venue,” said Ed Fisher, manager of the U-16 Boys Premier Group champion White Plains Rockets. “The team faced very strong competition, and played excellently, including prevailing in overtime in the final game. Many of our players have been playing together since they were seven years old and are overjoyed to have finally achieved their dream of winning a Regional and advancing on to the National Cup Finals.”
Three teams successfully defended previous Regional titles at LaGrangeville, including Ironbound SC Inter (U-17 Boys Super Group), which won at the LaGrangeville Regional for the third consecutive year.
In addition, Eastern FC Reds (U-14 Boys Premier Group) and Black Watch Premier – Buffalo Jags (U-17 Girls Super Group) each defended the Regional titles they won in LaGrangeville during the 2011 National Cup X.
Winners in the U-13 through U-17 age groups from each Regional will advance to the National Cup XI Finals, to be held July 27-30 at Waukegan Sports Park in Waukegan, Ill.
