Positive Coaching Alliance, a Players First partner advancing the pillars of Coaching Development, Parent Engagement & Education and Player Health & Safety, has posted the latest episode of their Power of Positive podcast, "How Sports Done Right Helps Youth affected By Trauma."
This installment features Jason Sacks, Power of Positive host and PCA Vice President of Business Development & Philanthropy, interviewing Megan Barlett, founder of We Coach. Throughout the episode, the two discuss how coaches should approach working with youth athletes who have experienced trauma. Children who have experienced trauma in the past develop an overactive stress response, but Barlett and We Coach have identified structure, predictability, consistency and competences/skill building as methods to combat those responses to stress.
The Power of Positive podcast recently hosted USMNT legend, Brian McBride, to speak about his journey as an athlete from youth experiences, through representing the United States in three World Cups, to recently co-founding, Tipevo, a new partner of PCA. McBride also discusses his advice for working with parents of youth athletes, advantages of being a multi-sport athlete, his personal setbacks and comebacks, and specific advice for youth soccer coaches.
