Are you a novice soccer player or an experienced veteran? No matter your skill level or the position you play on the field, you’ll need shin guards to compete in the beautiful game. Shin guards are worn by ALL — field players and goalkeepers included. Because of that, you need to make sure you have a pair that works best for your game.

There are three different types of shin guards: slip-in, ankle and shin socks. Each one offers different features that could work best depending on your primary position and style of play.

When choosing a shin guard, you’ll also want to keep sizing in mind. Your shin guard size will depend on your height. The equipment should cover a majority of the area between your knee and ankle.

BONUS PRO TIP: There are various shin guard accessories you can also add to your arsenal. Shin guard sleeves, tape, stays and ankle guards are key items to have, depending on the type of shin guard you choose.
