NORCO, Calif. | The 17th coaching course held by US Club Soccer and LaLiga in the two organizations’ partnership felt different. Sure, every course is different: new hosts, new cities and new coaches. But, this course was a remarkable change from the three-day LaLiga Formation Methodology courses that have been successfully implemented across the country over the past four years.

Enter a new phase in the coaching course lineup offered by US Club Soccer and LaLiga: the LaLiga Workshop. The first of its kind was held Sept. 28 at SilverLakes Sports Complex in suburban Los Angeles, hosted in conjunction with Alianza de Futbol and Relevent Sports Group. The four-hour course was delivered entirely in Spanish, creating a natural flow of knowledge sharing between the LaLiga clinicians and about 40 participating coaches.

This particular LaLiga Workshop served as an abbreviated LaLiga Formation Methodology course (which is 22 hours long), as the same clinicians that teach those courses – Hugo Blanco, Carlos Casal and Felipe Vega-Arango – taught the coaches in Norco about LaLiga’s methodological principles and player development theories.

In the future, LaLiga Workshops can follow this model or discuss specific topics, depending on the host organization’s needs. While LaLiga Formation Methodology courses will continue as more intensive learning experiences, LaLiga Workshops serve as a versatile complement with less time in the classroom and on the field. Stay tuned to usclubsoccer.org for announcements of future LaLiga courses to US Club Soccer members.

The LaLiga partnership is a headline of US Club Soccer's Players First initiative, which is a branded, holistic club soccer experience for parents and players, emphasizing the development of each individual to his or her full potential, and helping parents make better choices about where their children should play.
