Editor’s Note: Every quarter, US Club Soccer will announce the most recent class of Players First-licensed clubs. In the weeks to follow, those new clubs will be highlighted with Q&As from their directors.
Question: Why did SCS United apply for Players First licensing?
Nick Piccirilli, Academy Director of SCS United: We want to continue to grow and find better ways to develop our club. The clubs that are involved are some of the top clubs in the U.S., and we wanted to raise our standards to be at the same level. When reading up on what Players First licensing was, it was a no-brainer that we wanted to be a part of it, simply because it is what we look to do on a daily basis.
Question: What does it mean for SCS United to now be an official Players First-licensed club?
Piccirilli: It was a massive accomplishment for us, especially being the first club in Pennsylvania to be licensed. Our whole entire staff works hard to develop the players within our club, and it's a great feeling to be recognized because of it. We will work with Players First to continue to find the best ways to develop our players and continue to put them first.
Question: What makes Players First licensing different from other initiatives or programs your club has participated in?
Piccirilli: Usually the headlines for our club are about playing in top tournaments, being accepted into top leagues and individual accomplishments. This is a great program for our whole club to benefit from, and we are proud to be a part of it.
Question: What would you like the parents of SCS United to know about what this means to them?
Piccirilli: Our parents are aware of our club culture and our ways of development. Players First just goes to show that we, as a club, practice what we preach.
