Editor’s Note: Every quarter, US Club Soccer announces the most recent class of Players First-licensed clubs. In the weeks to follow, the newest clubs will be highlighted with Q&As from their directors.
Question: Why did Washington Premier Football Club apply for Players First licensing?
Roy Lassiter, Technical Director of Washington Premier Football Club (Yes, that Roy Lassiter, the MLS legend): We want to set ourselves apart from the rest of the clubs in our area, as well as Washington. We feel WPFC does some very elite things and believe that we are truly a Players First club. It caters perfectly to what the club is all about.
Question: What does it mean for Washington Premier Football Club to now be an official Players First-licensed club?
Lassiter: It recognizes and validates the initiatives the club has already done to reach this point. We also wanted to benefit from what being a Players First-licensed club represents.
Question: What makes Players First licensing different from other initiatives or programs your club has participated in?
Lassiter: It allows us to get to know more about other clubs, their methods, and more special programs throughout the country. This gives us an opportunity to have our club spotlighted, so other clubs, players and parents can see our work. It also helps us understand more about player health and safety, while getting more structured on our training practices for players within the club.
Question: What would you like the parents of Washington Premier Football Club to know about what this means to them?
Lassiter: How detailed and prestigious the program is. It will allow WPFC to continue our quest to promote education to players and parents, to become a well rounded club.
