The U.S. Soccer Federation has awarded $2.4 million in 2020 Innovate to Grow Fund grants to various Federation members, including to US Club Soccer. A portion of that grand total will help launch US Club Soccer’s proposal of an accessible, comprehensive program that encourages and guides high school and college players into a coaching education pathway.

Specifically, this program will be launched in collaboration with NorCal Premier Soccer and is approved for funding for three years. Interested players between the ages of 16-22 will be able to attend a U.S. Soccer grassroots course at no cost, which eliminates a key barrier to entering the coaching field. The program targets Hispanic and female players, as critical demographics to grow the sport. This will also promote a higher standard of coaching at all levels of the game and inspire a new generation of coaches, beginning in this crucial market in northern California.

“The expansion of the Innovate to Grow program in its third year demonstrates the deep commitment of our member organizations to making our sport more accessible,” U.S. Soccer President Carlos Cordeiro said in a news release. “We couldn’t be prouder to partner with them to help grow the game in their communities.”

The success of this pilot program in northern California could generate potential to expand the initiative in other markets around the country.

In the past few years, US Club Soccer has quickly become a leader in providing continuing education opportunities for coaches. In addition to its renowned LaLiga Formation Methodology series – of which there have been 18 courses spanning domestic and international destinations, US Club Soccer has also hosted more than 150 grassroots and “D” license courses throughout the country. In partnership with NorCal Premier, Twin Cities Soccer Leagues and Red River NPL, US Club Soccer is poised to host three “C” courses in 2020.
