With all soccer activities suspended until May 18, it’s more than important than ever for players to take command of their personal development. Meaningful player development can be achieved outside of team-structured practice.
Below are some resources from Players First partners to enhance player development at home.
Upcoming Facebook Live sessions
Several Players First partners will be lending their time and expertise over the coming weeks with Facebook Live sessions covering a variety of topics. You’ll hear from industry leaders in technology, player development, health & safety, risk management and coaching. Be sure to monitor the Players First courses & events web page for details.
You can catch any of the past Facebook Live sessions within the "Videos" section of our Facebook page.
Beast Mode Soccer
The popular Players First Video Training Series, presented by Beast Mode Soccer, is a treasure trove of player development-focused exercises you can do with minimal equipment from home.
There are 46 total videos in this YouTube playlist containing a few different mini-series components, such as the “First Touch Series,” “Buddy Passing” (with a sibling or parent, of course!), “Four Cone Drill,” “Mastering the Art of Dribbling” and more. Here’s a challenging exercise you can do inside or outside: tennis ball juggling.
Beast Mode Soccer also designed its “My Soccer Training” app that features a library of elite training sessions, a calendar to track your progress and a community integration to interact with others, including Beast Mode Soccer founder David Copeland-Smith. For special pricing for US Club Soccer members, please contact Copeland-Smith directly at email@example.com.
We know this is an especially difficult time for players to get recruited by colleges. That’s why ScoutingZone released a free four-week recruiting plan for players and clubs. This complimentary recruiting plan was sent to US Club Soccer members via email on March 24, and a copy is available on the ScoutingZone/Players First web page.
TopYa! launched a virtual skills contest for Players First-licensed clubs. The concept caught fire with dozens of clubs participating and about 4,000 videos submitted in just the first few days.
All US Cub Soccer members have access to special pricing on TopYa!’s platform that effectively encourages players to train on their own, including Contests, Juggling Club and Fundraising. These are unique resources that allow players to compete at home with minimal equipment.
Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org to learn more about special TopYa! offers for US Club Soccer members.
Players First partner SportSessionPlanner is offering a 6-week free trial to Version 2.0 Club System in partnership with US Club Soccer with absolutely no obligation to purchase at the end of the trial period. Here's a Facebook Live demonstration of the platform. Access provided to all coaches, and sessions can be downloaded to PDF after the trial ends. Contact email@example.com for details.
Positive Coaching Alliance
Although not soccer-specific, it’s important to take measures to mentally recharge during this break. Positive Coaching Alliance founder Jim Thompson wrote this thought-provoking post titled “Using the Sports Shutdown to Recover the Joy of Sports.”
A couple days before, Positive Coaching Alliance released a helpful guide to “Dealing with Disappointment” in the aftermath of so many postponements and cancelations.
This is also a great time to consider Positive Coaching Alliance’s lineup of online courses, which have specific focuses on coaches, parents, athletes and referees.
