Editor’s Note: Every quarter, US Club Soccer announces the most recent class of Players First-licensed clubs. In the weeks to follow, the newest clubs will be highlighted with Q&As from their directors.
Q: Why did Vienna Youth Soccer apply for Players First licensing?
Kevin James, Executive and Technical Director of Vienna Youth Soccer: Your mission says it all: "US Club Soccer will foster the growth and development of soccer clubs throughout the United States to create the best possible development environment for players of all ages in every club." This mission aligns with our goal of providing our players with a lifetime of soccer, and we felt it was the right time because of the growth we've had. We want to do everything we can to continue growing and developing at all levels.
Q: What does it mean for Vienna Youth Soccer to now be an official Players First-licensed club?
James: We couldn't be more grateful for the opportunity. Becoming a Players First-licensed club is going to provide our players, coaches and parents with more resources and opportunities to learn from other Players First clubs. US Club Soccer's commitment to player development through this initiative, combined with the additional coach education opportunities, makes it a great addition to our program. Our players and coaches stand to benefit immensely from this.
Q: What makes Players First licensing different from other initiatives or programs your club has participated in?
James: Having been a part of the Virginia Premier Soccer League, which is a US Club Soccer league, we knew that the standard was high. What truly set this apart from other initiatives is the level of detail and initiative that US Club Soccer took to review and get to know who we are and what we do.
Q: What would you like the parents of Vienna Youth Soccer to know about what this means to them?
James: We want all of our parents to know that becoming a Players First club is going to further provide our players, coaches and families with more resources and opportunities to learn. In this environment, there is an endless possibility to not only grow as individuals but also as teams and a club. US Club Soccer has demonstrated a commitment to an extremely high standard and we now get to be part of that story.
