Editor's note: This article has been updated since the original publish date to reflect the launch of 2020-21 registration and the addition of several resources.

  • The 2019-20 Governing Season will end July 31, 2020.
  • The 2020-21 Governing Season is July 1, 2020 – July 31, 2021.

National Registration System (NRS), powered by SportsEngine

  • Within the NRS, registration for the 2020-21 Governing Season opened June 1, 2020 (30 days earlier than previous years).
Administrators may now add teams and individuals to the 2020-21 Governing Season, purchase player and staff memberships/registrations/passcards, and monitor completion of eligibility requirements.
  • Similarly, players and staff members being registered may now complete eligibility requirements for the 2020-21 Governing Season.
  • Memberships will be valid as of July 1, 2020, even if all eligibility requirements are completed in June.
  • Org admins will have four options to add teams and individuals to the 2020-21 Governing Season: 1) Copy from the 2019-20 Governing Season as a starting point; 2) import via .csv upload; 3) manual entry; or 4) sync from SportsEngine Registration.
  • Please frequent the NRS web page on for a variety of resources, information regarding tutorial webinars, highlights of new and forthcoming functionality, and more.

Staff registration/memberships

In short, staff registration is required for anyone who has regular contact with Youth Participants. Visit the Who Must Register web page for more. Registration/membership eligibility requirements are detailed on the Staff Registration web page, and below are a few highlights.

  • To participate in the 2020-21 Governing Season, registration/membership eligibility requirements must be completed pursuant to these timeframes.
  • SafeSport training is an annual requirement. Accordingly, all SafeSport training completed prior to June 1, 2020, will expire July 31, 2020. Those with a staff registration/membership purchased through July 31, 2021 will be ineligible to participate as of August 1, 2020, unless training is completed on or after June 1, 2020. All impacted individuals will receive an automated reminder email directly from SportsEngine in early June.
  • New SafeSport Lookup syncing functionality. Individuals may now submit the 32-digit code on the SafeSport certificate to immediately sync completion of that training to one's SportsEngine profile/the NRS. This is applicable for those who completed training outside SportsEngine (via or the U.S. Soccer Learning Center, for example) or if completion does not reflect within one's SportsEngine profile/the NRS. This eliminates the need for the completion certificate to be manually uploaded and subsequently reviewed by US Club Soccer staff.

To do so, the person being registered should access the "Complete Certification" link that is emailed and accessible via his or her SportsEngine HQ dashboard. That person will be prompted to either take the training or enter the certificate number of the most recently completed training.
  • Sideline Sports Doc (SSD) training. For those whose training is not completed via SportsEngine or does not sync directly within the NRS, the new SSD Training Verification Form is accessible via Now separate from the background screening application, members are able to upload their SSD certificate for verification by US Club Soccer staff.
  • Rec staff registration. Starting with the 2020-21 Governing Season, rec staff registration is transitioning online to the NRS. Org administrators are encouraged to review this May 21 member update, the Overview of Rec Staff Submission help article and the SportsEngine HQ Guide - Rec Staff or SportsEngine HQ Guide - Rec Staff Premium (for orgs that use SportsEngine sync).

Player registration/memberships

Registration is required of all players participating in US Club Soccer-operated or -sanctioned programming. The Player Registration web page provides an overview of registration/membership eligibility requirements, and below are a few highlights.

  • Player age divisions
  • Among the new NRS features that may have the most significant benefit for org admins when registering players: 1) filter by ineligible/eligible status; and 2) upload proof of birth, and add or edit photos for the Official Roster/passcard, even in the instance of a profile claimed by the player’s parent. Additional features are listed on the NRS Feature Updates web page.
