By US Club Soccer, 05/11/20, 11:15AM EDT

Dear members,

Please read below for information regarding player and staff registration for the upcoming 2020-21 Governing Season.

  • The 2019-20 Governing Season will end July 31, 2020.
  • The 2020-21 Governing Season is July 1, 2020 – July 31, 2021.

National Registration System (NRS), powered by SportsEngine

  • Within the NRS, registration for the 2020-21 Governing Season will open June 1, 2020 (30 days earlier than previous years). As of this date, teams and individuals may be added to the Governing Season, player and staff memberships/registrations may be purchased, and eligibility requirements may be completed.
  • Memberships will be valid as of July 1, 2020, even if all eligibility requirements are completed in June.
  • Org admins will have four options to add teams and individuals to the 2020-21 Governing Season: 1) Copy from the 2019-20 Governing Season as a starting point; 2) import via .csv upload; 3) manual entry; or 4) sync from SportsEngine Registration.
  • Please frequent the NRS Feature Updates web page for highlights of new and forthcoming functionality.
  • Training videos and articles continue to be updated both generally and to reflect new functionality. Information regarding live webinars will also be available over the next several weeks.

Staff registration/memberships

In short, staff registration is required for anyone who has regular contact with Youth Participants. Visit the Who Must Register web page for more. Registration/membership eligibility requirements are detailed on the Staff Registration web page, and below are a few highlights.

  • To participate in the 2020-21 Governing Season, registration/membership eligibility requirements must be completed pursuant to these timeframes.
  • SafeSport training is an annual requirement. Accordingly, all SafeSport training completed prior to June 1, 2020, will expire July 31, 2020. Those with a staff registration/membership purchased through July 31, 2021 will be ineligible to participate as of August 1, 2020, unless training is completed on or after June 1, 2020.
  • SafeSport training completed outside SportsEngine. For those whose training is not completed via SportsEngine (for example, it is completed via or the U.S. Soccer Learning Center), new functionality will soon launch that automatically syncs the completed training to one’s SportsEngine profile/the NRS by entering the certificate number. This will eliminate the need for manual upload of the completion certificate and subsequent verification by US Club Soccer staff.
  • Sideline Sports Doc (SSD) training. For those whose training is not completed via SportsEngine or does not sync directly within the NRS, the new SSD Training Verification Form is accessible via Now separate from the background screening application, members are able to upload their SSD certificate for verification by US Club Soccer staff.
  • Rec staff registration. Starting with the 2020-21 Governing Season, rec staff registration is transitioning online to the NRS. Emails are being sent directly to applicable members regarding this transition.

Player registration/memberships

Registration is required of all players participating in US Club Soccer-operated or -sanctioned programming. The Player Registration web page provides an overview of registration/membership eligibility requirements, and below are a few highlights.

  • Player age divisions
  • Among the new NRS features that may have the most significant benefit for org admins when registering players: 1) filter by ineligible/eligible status; and 2) upload proof of birth, and add or edit photos for the Official Roster/passcard, even in the instance of a profile claimed by the player’s parent. Additional features are listed on the NRS Feature Updates web page.

A subsequent email will be sent on June 1 to confirm that registration is open for the 2020-21 Governing Season.
