Editor's Note: As the Fall 2019 season begins, US Club Soccer will be highlighting each NPL member league with a Q&A of their league administrators and directors. The SoCal NPL conversation is with lead director Chris Zembik.
Question: As one of the founding member leagues in 2011, what are the biggest changes that you've noticed in the evolution of the NPL?
Chris Zembik: Each season, the pathway to postseason qualification allows our clubs & teams to compete against the best in the country. The teams who win their age bracket in SCNPL are always thrilled to represent SCNPL at the highest level.
Question: What do you want your members to know about SoCal NPL this season?
Zembik: We recognize the commitment that these players put forth by rewarding the SCNPL teams with top quality playing fields, hand picked officials, and carefully selected elite teams as opponents, so every game throughout the season is competitive.
Question: Are you making any adjustments this season compared to previous seasons?
Zembik: We aim for our league to provide a platform to showcase each player's abilities allowing them to be scouted at each and every game. We strive to provide a culture where all of our clubs, teams, parents and referees exhibit sportsmanship, teamwork, communication and commitment to do what's best for the players.
