Jerry Smith, head women’s soccer coach at Santa Clara University, reveals that while recruiting, he strongly evaluates a player’s mental capabilities. He believes that the mental side of the game is the most important factor of future success in an athlete.

Watching recruits play and assessing their skills, he will also assess an athlete’s mental toughness, resiliency and receptiveness to coaching.
