Editor’s Note: On Dec. 18, US Club Soccer announced the first-ever class of Players First-licensed clubs, which featured 46 clubs from 19 states. In the weeks to follow, those clubs will be highlighted with Q&As from their directors.
Question: Why did San Antonio City Soccer Club apply for Players First licensing?
Adriano Allain, Director of Club Development of San Antonio City Soccer Club: On a micro level, we wanted to expose ourselves to feedback so we can reflect, and learn and grow as a club. We feel it’s important to live out of our comfort zone and shake-up the status quo from time to time. On a macro level, we wanted to support US Club Soccer’s initiative and commitment to improving the club experience.
Question: What does it mean for San Antonio City Soccer Club to now be an official Players First-licensed club?
Allain: Over the summer we re-branded our club to San Antonio City Soccer Club (formerly Lonestar SA). This was a golden opportunity to realign our club’s vision and core values, and reconnect with our families. Senior leadership participated in an introspective review of our organizational processes and methodology. This resulted in a technical framework that will help guide and adapt the club for the next 3-5 years. Having a Players First club license confirms we are heading in the right direction. We would like to publicly acknowledge Benjamin Ziemer, Jené Baclawski and Neal Ellis for their mentorship. Thank you.
Question: What makes Players First licensing different from other initiatives or programs your club has participated in?
Allain: Player’s First club licensing is unique. It’s the first attempt we know of that is specifically designed to evaluate and recognize club standards through a holistic approach. We are humbled and honored to participate.
Question: What would you like the parents of San Antonio City Soccer Club to know about what this means to them?
Allain: Our families have experienced a lot of change this past year. We are committed to providing them the best experience possible and will always strive for excellence. We look forward to celebrating our successes and facing new challenges – together with honesty and dignity. Our ultimate objective is to grow the club with better players and happier people.
