Editor’s Note: On Dec. 18, US Club Soccer announced the first-ever class of Players First-licensed clubs, which featured 46 clubs from 19 states. In the weeks to follow, those clubs will be highlighted with Q&As from their directors.
Question: Why did Lonestar Soccer Club apply for Players First licensing?
K.C. Crabb, Director of Coaching of Lonestar Soccer Club: Lonestar Soccer Club prides itself on being a professional youth soccer club that caters to the needs of our membership and the development of our players. Players First licensing is a great opportunity to have our club's leadership, our club's processes and our club's curriculum analyzed with a critical criteria by a top tier organization like US Club Soccer.
Question: What does it mean for Lonestar Soccer Club to now be an official Players First-licensed club?
Crabb: We were excited when our club obtained Players First licensing in the first selection, because it solidifies that we are executing our plan, and that the professionalism we strive to achieve is benefiting our membership.
Question: What makes Players First licensing different from other initiatives or programs your club has participated in?
Crabb: Lonestar believes the Players First licensing is different than other initiatives, because it takes a more holistic approach. The soccer piece is important, and the curriculum is vital to the development of our players, but the health and safety of our players is paramount to our club's mission. Players First not only asked about our club's curriculum and our soccer training environment, but was very critical about our club's health and safety initiatives. Concussion protocols, coach background checks and player mental and physical well being. We ensure our players are safe at all times, and the Players First credentialing demonstrates that a third party organization agrees with our protocols and processes for player safety.
Question: What would you like the parents of Lonestar Soccer Club to know about what this means to them?
Crabb: What Players First licensing means to our membership is the club is striving every day to be the best youth soccer club for their families. There are so many areas that this licensing encompasses that benefit their children every day. Areas they may not be aware of on the surface, but so many things behind the scenes that make the club the best, and safest, environment possible for their children to enjoy the sport of soccer.
