Editor’s Note: On Dec. 18, US Club Soccer announced the first-ever class of Players First-licensed clubs, which featured 46 clubs from 19 states. In the weeks to follow, those clubs will be highlighted with Q&As from their directors.
Question: Why did Space Coast United Soccer Club apply for Players First licensing?
Scott Armstrong, Executive Director of Coaching of Space Coast United Soccer Club: As a club, we felt that the Players First license fits our culture of a club, we are a club that develops the individual to fit the Collective (Team, Club) aspect, with that said our mission is to develop players that fit their own DNA.
Question: What does it mean for Space Coast United Soccer Club to now be an official Players First-licensed club?
Armstrong: We are excited and proud to be recognized in this program especially as one of the early members. For a club we feel we have a standard of developing the players and all the benefits that come with being a Players First club.
Question: What makes Players First licensing different from other initiatives or programs your club has participated in?
Armstrong: As a club we felt that the Players First initiative gave a clear pathway not only for the player but for the club, most other programs did not give us this pathway.
Question: What would you like the parents of Space Coast United Soccer Club to know about what this means to them?
Armstrong: That as a club we are always looking to improve their child's experience in soccer and as a club we are not stagnant, so as the game evolves so do we.
